THE PROBLEM

Some labels are needed at the same time every day: kitchen prep labels before the morning shift, the day's picking labels before the warehouse opens, weekly shelf labels after a price update. Someone has to remember to print them, and on the day they forget, the shift starts without labels.

A Scheduler node starts a workflow at the times you set.

01 / SCHEDULE

How it works

01

Add a Scheduler node. Give it a schedule and your time zone, for example every day at 06:00 in Europe/Istanbul.

02

Fetch what needs printing. An HTTP Fetcher can pull today's list from your system's API.

03

Loop and print. A For Each node prints one label per item of that list.

04

Report. A Notify node can send "48 prep labels printed" when it is done.

02 / CRON

Schedule examples

ScheduleCron
Every day at 06:000 6 * * *
Weekdays at 07:3030 7 * * 1-5
Every Monday at 05:000 5 * * 1
Every hour, on the hour0 * * * *

Times are read in the time zone you give the node, so a schedule stays at 06:00 local time through daylight-saving changes.

03 / AUTOMATION

What a scheduled print needs

  • The printer's PC should be on. The Print node hands the job to the online device that owns the printer. If that machine is off at 06:00, the job waits and prints when it comes back.
  • Data that is ready. Scheduling decides when; the list has to come from somewhere: an API, a database or a file.
  • Rather print as soon as data arrives than at a fixed time? Use a hot folder or a watched database table.

QUESTIONS / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I schedule label printing at a set time every day?

Yes. A Scheduler node starts a workflow on a cron schedule in your time zone, for example every day at 06:00.

What if the computer with the printer is off at that time?

The job waits in the queue and prints when the machine that owns the printer comes back online.

Where does the scheduled job get its data?

From the steps after the Scheduler, for example an HTTP Fetcher that calls your system's API, followed by a For Each that prints one label per item.
