Label printing inside one warehouse is a solved problem right up to the moment there are two warehouses. Then the questions change: which printer, which site, who is allowed, what happens when the pack bench printer runs out mid-wave, and how you prove three months later what was on a label.
🖨️ Your printer almost certainly already works. LabelInn writes native ZPL, TSPL/TSPL2, TPCL, ESC/Label, EZPL and PPLB — the languages behind 50+ printer brands. See compatible brands →
Printers as named destinations
Every printer registers under your account with a name. Jobs are addressed to that name, not to a machine or an IP, so Pack Bench 3 means the same thing whether the job came from the WMS, a workflow, head office or an operator on the floor. Moving the printer to a different PC does not change the address.
The parts that break at scale
Serial collisions
Two stations printing the same batch is the classic way to mint duplicate serials. Allocation happens server-side, so each station gets a distinct block and a mid-run crash does not restart the sequence.
Silent failures
A pack bench printer that runs out of media mid-wave must not look like a successful run. LabelInn reads printer status — out of paper, cover open, head open, paused, ribbon out — and reports the specific fault, with optional email, SMS or WhatsApp alerts.
Out-of-order batches
Serialised or sequence-critical runs print in submitted order. Without that guarantee a 500-label wave can come out shuffled, which is discovered at the worst possible moment.
Who printed what
Every label produces an immutable audit entry. For a 3PL that is not paperwork — it is how you answer a client asking what shipped under their account on a given day.
Fitting your WMS
Three integration shapes, pick whichever your WMS supports: REST API for systems that can call out, a watched folder for systems that can only export, or a direct database read when neither is available. See ERP and WMS integration.
Per-client isolation for 3PLs
Printers can be restricted to specific users, and templates version independently — so a client's label format changes without touching anyone else's, and the audit record shows which template version produced which label.
One account, every site
Register printers per site, address them by name, and keep a provable record of every label.
