Where the free tools stop

These pages produce images, PDFs and numbers. Some jobs need more than that.

  • Printing straight to a thermal label printer. The LabelInn app prints the same design to Zebra, TSC, Toshiba and Epson label printers in their own printer languages, over USB, network or Bluetooth. It is free to start.
  • A label per row of a spreadsheet. Excel and CSV binding is on the Starter plan, $7.99 a month, with a 14-day trial. A free account in the label maker shows the first 10 rows.
  • Printing from an order, a webhook or a sensor. That is the workflow engine.
  • Chemical hazard labels. The label maker has GHS symbols and a chemical template; drafting a full CLP label from H and P codes is described on the GHS and CLP label software page.

QUESTIONS / FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make and print a label online for free?

Yes. The label maker lets you pick a size, add text, barcodes, QR codes, images and shapes, then print it from the browser or download a PDF or PNG. There is no watermark. For a label printer that uses its own language, such as ZPL or TSPL, the LabelInn app sends the design to it directly.

Do I need an account to use the tools?

No. The barcode generator, QR code generator, label maker and calculators work without an account. A free account adds running numbers, today's date and the connection to your printer in the label maker.

Is anything uploaded when I generate a barcode?

The barcode and QR generators and the calculators run in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to a server. Images you add in the label maker stay on your device.

Which barcode type should I use?

EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products, Code 128 or GS1-128 for shipping and warehouse labels, ITF-14 for cartons of retail units, Data Matrix for very small parts and a QR code for a link. Your customer or industry standard has the final say.

Can these tools print to a thermal label printer?

They produce images, PDFs and numbers. Printing straight to a Zebra, TSC, Toshiba or Epson label printer in its own language is done by the LabelInn app, which has a free plan.

Why does a barcode scan on screen but fail on the label?

Usually the bars are narrower than the printer can reproduce, or the quiet zone is too small. The X-dimension calculator shows the narrowest bar a given printer resolution can make, whether it meets the GS1 minimum, and the quiet zone the symbol needs.
